Discover all new features, bugfixes and improvements.

The quarterly Major updates mark new features, that were released in preceding updates, as stable. These updates also set the support baseline for client versions, meaning older versions than the previous major update are considered outdated and unsupported.

Bugfixes

  • The machine installer was updated to correctly install all required dependencies.

Improvements

  • The client and portal infrastructure has been updated to keep the software reliable, compatible and secure.

Bugfixes

  • An issue with corrupt configuration files that caused clients to stop working has been fixed.
  • Links from documentation resulted in a confusing warning message. This warning was removed.
  • The pie chart on the client's Analyze page was fixed.

Bugfixes

  • The WiFi singal strength test does not work on machines with the windows 24H2 update if the location service is disabled. Therefore, the WiFi signal strength test is now a configurable managed test.

New

  • One can hide the tray icon for all clients in a tenant, allowing the Rimscout client to run solely as a background task without any UI.
  • The VPN can be used as location tag parameter to configure specific test sets for VPN clients.
  • The local IP address can be configured as a tag parameter, enabling quick addition of locations using only subnets.

Improvements

  • Primary network adapter detection now prioritizes physical adapters over virtual ones, also improving the connection type detection.
  • The test result selection now allows filtering for multiple clients, locations, and tests, facilitating quicker comparisons.
  • The design of multiple UI elements has been updated for enhanced consistency and user experience.
  • CSV exports have been changed from comma-separated to semicolon-separated values.

Bugfixes

  • The location overview page sometimes listed clients in the wrong location. This was fixed.

  • The Location overview page is now available, showing current issues, reporting clients and system profile statistics for a selected location. See Location overview
  • Issue and Issue details are introduced, that help to find issues in your environment and to understand their impact. See Issue details

Improvements

  • The Portal design was changed to and adpated to have one consistent and improved user experience.
  • The loading time of the Clients page has been improved.

Bugfixes

  • The notifications about outdated and inactive clients were accidentally hidden and are now displayed again.

Improvements

  • The AD Site detection now includes a status that indicates issues with the domain server.
  • HTTP test errors provide more details about the exception(s) causing the measurement issues.

Improvements

  • The VPN detection detects Cisco AnyConnect VPNs.

Bugfixes

  • An issue was resolved that caused the Rimscout logo to appear on the desktop after a proxy change.
  • The problem of the tray icon description text occasionally sticking to the desktop has been fixed.
  • Links, such as those from alerts to the Rimscout portal, were not being properly redirected if a login was required.

Bugfixes

  • Issues with the public IP detection in environments with proxys or VPNs were fixed. This should also fix related internet provider detection issues.

New

  • The Country and Active Direcotry Site of clients are detected and can be used for location tagging. See Location tag parameters
  • A client can be chosen to auto-fill the tag parameters on location tag creation.
  • Several IP addresses can be specified for one location tag by comma-separation.

Improvements

  • A new location can be added quickly on location tag creation. See Create location tag
  • Issue details on the client now display a link to the test results section in the portal. Client and test are preselected. See Network connectivity tests

Bugfixes

  • The Default gateway test errored in some tenants due to incorrect configuration files. The affected files were replaced.

  • The name of the internet service provider of a client is detected and shown on system profile.
  • The health pages have been restructured. It is now also possible to filter by internet provider. See Health

  • Small improvements of the new mail list.
  • The client has been improved so that it works correctly in environments with a system proxy.

Bugfixes

  • An issue that caused the default gateway test to error was fixed.
  • The oData function current() was adapted to work correctly with PowerBI. See APIs
  • Clients that have no username didn't appear in the clients list. This was fixed.

  • Improved logs to better analyze the client's behaviour in environments using a proxy.

  • The Clients page now displays information about outdated or inactive clients and offers a filter to quickly find all affected clients. See Clients .
  • A mail list was created to optionally notify portal users about new major updates. See Access control .

Improvements

  • Column naming and icons are now standardized on all pages of the portal.

Bugfixes

  • The issue where system profile data was sometimes not collected has been resolved. The system profile should now be collected reliably.
  • The issue causing clients to open the UI every time the device is (re)started has been fixed. The UI will now only open when clicking on the tray icon.

  • A per-machine installer is now available to simplify the client deployment and getting better control of updates. For more details see Software deployment .

Improvements

  • The automatic updates for the per-user installations is now more reliable and quicker when new updates are available.
  • Health pages drilldown in the portal now uses the current time and not midnight.

Bugfixes

  • Issues with collecting and sending of system profile data were fixed. This should also fix some reported internet provider errors.

Major Update 1.0.1.1119

New

  • The Rimscout data is now accessable via an API. Use this to build your own report e.g. in PowerBI or grafana. For more details see APIs .
  • The Rimscout client collects more network environment information. It detects now VPNs, proxy settings and checks for SSL inspections so that you can analyze possibly related issues.
  • The metrics Jitter and Packetloss are new metrics on the test result chart. Use them for a deepler analysis of your network issues.

Improvements

  • Consistent system profile language in the portal.
  • Some errors provide now more detailed error messages in the portal.

Bugfixes

  • Some clients somtimes had a test called Result is unkown appearing the UI. This was removed.
  • Due to changes of the Microsoft Teams endpoints the Teams audio/video test reported many errors. The test was adapted for the errors to disappear.
  • Corrected a broken link to the Alert documentation in the portal.
